Cox and Comcast own minority stakes in @Home and currently use the ISP as their sole cable broadband provider. But both cable operators both began distancing themselves from the @Home earlier this year by opting out of their exclusivity agreements with the ISP.

The operators are testing other ISPs over their networks and plan to offer multiple Internet providers next year. Ending the distribution agreements would cut ties completely with @Home, as both Cox and Comcast are saying they plan to stop using @Home’s service entirely.

According to their agreements, Cox and Comcast must continue using @Home in some capacity until June 4, 2002. @Home officials said it is negotiating with Cox and Comcast for alternative commercial agreements, but the company could offer no assurances that the negotiations would be successful.
