Covad loss shrinks, expects zero growth

Bankrupt competitive DSL provider Covad Communications reported second-quarter revenues of $87.1 million, a 22% improvement from the first quarter. The company also posted an operating loss of $141.8 million, or $1.01 per share, compared to a $174.7 million loss in the first quarter. No earnings estimates were available from First Call/Thomson Financial.

Covad’s subscriber lines in service rose to 333,000, a 4% sequential increase during the quarter. The company, which earlier this month announced a bankruptcy plan designed to restructure its debt and return it to normal operations, said it expects little to no revenue growth for the third quarter because of market uncertainty and the company’s financial situation.
