CompTel, Ascent merger approved

The Competitive Telecommunications Association and the Association for Communications Enterprises announced today that their respective members had voted to approve the merger of the two trade groups. A transitional board of directors that consists of all current board members of the two organizations will govern the merged organization, which will be known as the CompTel/Ascent Alliance. A new 21-member board consisting of nine small carrier representatives, six medium-sized carrier representatives and six large companies will be elected at the first Alliance-sponsored conference in Anaheim, Calif., in February 2004. The groups said they would hold their respective conferences as scheduled this fall.
