Comcast, Cox feel secure in trialing new product

Comcast and Cox Communications have signed up for limited marketing trials of Security Broadband’s SafeVillage system that uses existing cable broadband networks to deliver professionally monitored home-security services with two-way audio and real-time video.

Comcast will try the service in Sarasota, Fla. Cox, which did technical trials with Security Broadband in Las Vegas in 2000, will expand that effort to a marketing trial. In both instances, the companies will market the service to cable-modem subscribers, who will have the ability to view their homes remotely and interact with family members via a password-protected Web site.
