The North American version of the company’s prOceSS7, which will makes its debut at Supercomm, translates traffic models into a real-time call detail record that can be used to create value-added services such as presence management.

Previewing the tool at the Presence and Instant Messaging show here, Charles Stormon, chief technology officer of telecoms for Coherent, said prOceSS7 can be used to monitor elements as diverse as service-level agreement adherence and fraud detection.

In the IM and presence market, carriers can use data from the tool to control the amount of traffic going to and from SS7 network elements.

“There has been more than one occasion where the network has gone down because there was too much short-messaging-service traffic,” said Stormon. “As these new service come on line, this lets the operators put a governor on it.”

Additionally, the probe can be used to mine data on a real-time basis from GPRS or SIP-based network elements.
