Cisco revealed that it has won a contract with Shanghai Telecom, a division of China Telecom, to provide its 12400 Internet routers to the second phase provider. The routers will be used to create the IP backbone network for Shanghai Telecom’s metro network build out.

Once the MAN is turned up, Shanghai Telecom will offer IP VPN services via connections to enterprises and commercial buildings.

No financial terms were given for the contract.

Nortel’s wins earlier this week were with China Mobile and Chunghwa Telecom. (See Web story, "Nortel makes China Mobile win.")
