Ciena gets foot in the door at Telmex
Despite many negatives Ciena has been experiencing recently with poor earnings and staff cuts, today the company revealed that it has won a deal with Telmex. It is the first sales relationship between the two companies and will give Ciena the opportunity to expand further with the company.

Although no terms were given, the deal involves Ciena’s flagship CoreDirector optical switches. Telmex currently is in the deployment process on its fiber network. Considering Telmex’s network spans 70,000 fiber optic miles in Latin America the potential for more sales may be significant.
Ciena’s strategy of concentrating on well-established service providers is apparently paying off. The company also announced a significant first-time win with AT&T earlier this year.
“Ciena’s LightWorks architecture was the clear winner,” said Eduardo Gomez Chilbli, director of technical and long distance for Telmex in a prepared statement.
