Under the agreement, Planeta Networks will provide an application platform and innovative broadband Internet content, and Cidera will distribute the content throughout Ibero-America via its content distribution architecture.
Planeta Networks will use Cidera's Internet Broadcast Backbone to distribute applications and broadband content to Planeta's Broadband Service Provider (BSP) customers. Using Cidera, Planeta customers will provide services such as streaming-on-demand video and audio, e-commerce, interactive advertising and application software. Using Planeta Networks' platform, BSPs will be able to bundle Internet access with content and service applications.
Using Cidera's Big File Mover broadband content delivery service, Planeta Networks will be able to move high volume video, audio and data files from its main servers to its BSP clients in Ibero-America. This will allow Planeta's clients to distribute applications and content quickly, conveniently and in a guaranteed fashion, avoiding Internet congestion.
"This agreement will allow us to keep our position as an ideal broadband applications platform for BSPs in the region." said Rafael Urbina, Planeta Network's CEO. "We chose Cidera because the high quality, reliability and cost effectiveness of their satellite network allows us to effectively transfer our applications and content to our customers at the edge of the Internet without congesting our clients' Internet connection."
Richard J. Hanna, Cidera's CEO, said, "Our agreement with Planeta represents the extension of Cidera's footprint into Latin America, and supports our efforts in Ibero-America with the addition of Planeta's Spanish and Portuguese content channels. Cidera's Internet distribution architecture is designed to help Planeta effectively achieve its goals in the broadband service market."
