China Unicom taps Motorola for CDMA expansion

Motorola announced a $34.8 million CDMA contract with China Unicom to expand the operator’s 800 MHz network in China’s Hebei Province. Motorola will expand capacity in Handan, Cangzhou, Hengshui and Xingtai.

In addition, Lucent Technologies said it completed CDMA 1X voice and data calls in China with Unicom’s subsidiary Shanghai Unicom. Advanced mobile Internet services, including wireless Web browsing, email and video streaming, were sent and received via laptop computers and personal digital assistants at speeds of up to 153 kbps, said Lucent.
