“We are focused on the idea of IP service switching,” said Hugh Kelly, senior vice president of marketing and business development for Celox.

The primary function of Celox’s new SCx 192 is to deliver value-added IP services. The equipment sits at the network edge and is intended give service providers more flexibility and scalability. The unit supports interfaces of DS-3 to OC-192 and can support around 1500 DS-3s. It connects to ATM, point of service (PoS), and Gigabit Ethernet.

The switch is capable of performing traffic management and bandwidth shaping functions to ensure performance and that the customer pays accordingly, said Kelly.

Celox will be competing with existing units such as Nortel’s Shasta equipment. The product will be going through interoperability and performance tests in March. Celox will begin shipping systems to carriers in the second quarter and it will be available in June, Kelly said.
