C-Cor.net acquires Aerotec Communications

Cable equipment manufacturer C-Cor.net today continued its push into the services side of the business by acquiring Aerotec Communications in a cash transaction.

Aerotec, a California-based broadband and telecommunications construction services provider with 35 employees, will become part of C-Cor.net’s Worldbridge Broadband Services subsidiary. The acquisition is part of C-Cor.net’s transformation from a traditional smokestack equipment maker to a services-oriented company.

“Our strategic goal is to have basically a 50-50 mix on the equipment and services,” said Sally Thiel, C-Cor.net’s investor relations director.

C-Cor.net’s business approach is now three-pronged, she added.

“We have the telecom equipment side, then we have one section related to network management and the integrated services management system, and [then] the third business unit that is all tech services. It’s in that Worldbridge tech services area that this Aerotec acquisition best fits,” she said.

As the cable industry winds down the massive network rebuilds of the past half decade or so, companies like C-Cor.net are forced to look elsewhere for significant revenue streams. Most are looking at the international market, particularly in Europe and Asia.

Domestically, “we’ll always see some business because technology changes,” Thiel said.

Nevertheless, she concluded, “our main and newest emphasis is in the area of network management. There’s quite a bit [happening] on the tech services side.”
