Broadsoft said in a press release that it would use the money to expand its sales activities worldwide. Other companies that participated in the round included Tekelec, Bessemer Venture Partners, Charles River Ventures, Columbia Capital and Crescendo Ventures.

Joseph Zell, general partner at Grotech Capital Group, said in a statement that Broadsoft was attractive because its products enable service providers to expand their revenue streams while they lower operations costs.

“This combination gives carriers what they need to be successful and maintain profitability,” Zell said.

Zell will be joining Broadsoft’s board of directors, as will Rich McGinn, general partner at RRE Ventures. Both Zell and McGinn bring much telecom experience to the new relationship. Zell most recently was CEO of Convergent Communications and spent nine years as an executive with U S West (now Qwest Communications). McGinn most recently was chairman and CEO of Lucent Technologies and previously served in a variety of executive positions with AT&T.
