Broadband market CPE ready for transition

Driven largely by residential gateways, the broadband CPE market is set to grow at a steady clip over the next five years, according to a study by In-Stat/MDR. The number of gateways shipped will go from just under 5 million this year to more than 18 million by 2008, at an annual growth rate of 30%. Overall, the market is starting to transition from a modem-dominated one to a gateway-dominated one, with service providers evolving CPE strategies to include gateways that enable back-end managed home networks.
