Level 3 will provide private-line circuits connecting GPRS base stations to AT&T’s wireless data infrastructure, bypassing the public switched telephone network. The GPRS networks provide packet-based data services at initial speeds of 32 kb/s. No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

AT&T has built GPRS networks in four of its metro markets and has plans to have coverage in 40% of its footprint by the end of the year.
