AT&T launches consumer local service in California

AT&T announced today it has begun offering local exchange service to consumers in California, simultaneously launching a marketing campaign designed to lure customers away from incumbent Pacific Bell.

AT&T already offers local services to its enterprise customers in major California metro areas, but this is its first foray into the California consumer market. The long-distance carrier is offering a local calling plan that undercuts an SBC-PacBell plan by $5 as well as offering bundled services planned for local and long distance.
