AT&T faces $780,000 fine for alleged DNC violations

The Federal Communications Commission might fine AT&T $780,000 for alleged violations of the commission's Do-Not-Call rules. The FCC alleged AT&T made telephone solicitation calls to 29 consumers on 78 separate occasions after they had requested that AT&T no longer call them. It is the first enforcement action since the DNC rules took effect last month. The commission said the action was taken after a review of consumer complaint data revealed more than 300 complaints over several months against AT&T for alleged DNC violations. FCC Chairman Michael Powell said in a statement that the action "puts telemarketers on notice that we will take all measures necessary to protect consumers who chose to be left alone in their homes."
