The Times quoted an AT&T spokeswoman who said the company was unaware of the charges. It also said about 50 of the employees have filed formal complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, a precursor to the filing of a federal lawsuit.

The law firm handling the case, Leeds, Morelli & Brown, also handled a discrimination case involving hundreds of employees at Nextel Communications.
