AT&T e-mails layoff news to Denver workers

AT&T Broadband CEO Bill Schleyer used e-mail to tell employees that 500 corporate jobs in the Denver headquarters would start to disappear this week. The company said it is adjusting to a new operating model that focuses on customer relations and that the cuts are not related to the economy’s downturn or its pending merger with Comcast.

AT&T Broadband has about 4400 workers in the Denver headquarters. Its 2000 Denver field operations workers won’t be affected.

Laid-off employees will remain in their jobs through the end of February and receive full pay and benefits through the end of March. Some workers will be invited to transfer into field positions.
