AT&T drops $4.95 Internet access plan

Another advertising-subsidized Internet access service fell by the wayside yesterday when AT&T announced that it is discontinuing its $4.95 Internet access plan, due to economic pressures.

The i495 service had offered 150 hours of dial-up access per month but included an on-screen advertising bar. It was introduced when several providers, including NetZero and Juno, offered free Internet access.

Users of the AT&T WorldNet service have until Jan. 4 to switch services. The lowest level of service that AT&T WorldNet will now provide costs $10.95 per month and includes 50 hours of access.
