“The difference is that we can deliver to each and every user data rates of up to 1 Mbps, which will be 40 times faster than 3G technologies,” said Nitin Shah, executive vice president and general manager at ArrayComm. “Also, the pricing will be that for the mass market and access to the Internet will be available from anywhere.”
The company anticipates its technology will let carriers provide mobile broadband wireless service for about $30 per month.
ArrayComm expects i-Burst will be a unique Internet experience because the system combines mobility with transmission speeds similar to a typical home broadband DSL line.
The company plans to license the technology to manufacturers, who will sell the equipment to network operators. Operators will then sell i-Burst access on a wholesale basis to distributors, which could include ISPs, mobile operators or corporate resellers.
In addition to launching the system, ArrayComm announced that it has entered into a licensing partnership with Kyocera, which will commercialize, manufacture and sell i-Burst worldwide. Hanaro Telecom also plans to develop an i-Burst system in Korea.
