AOL ISP president resigns

AOL ISP head James De Castro is resigning his post as president of AOL’s Interactive Services Division, leaving the nation’s largest Internet provider in the hands of corporate vice-chairman Ted Leonsis.

De Castro is the former radio industry veteran tapped by former AOL Chief Operating Officer Pittman to head up the interactive services, but after a corporate shake-up forced Robert Pittman to resign in July De Castro’s future became cloudy. Under De Castro’s supervision, AOL launched the latest version of its portal software last month, signaling an attempt to lure back subscribers from rivals Yahoo and Microsoft. But with AOL 8.0 out of the box only a month, the company appears unwilling to wait for the results to come in. Leonsis, a long-time AOL veteran, will work under new AOL interactive services CEO Jonathan Miller, a former executive with USA Interactive.
