AOL broadband boss being replaced

Audrey Weil, head of AOL’s broadband unit, will leave that post in May, according to published reports. She will be replaced by Lisa Hook, who currently heads the company’s “AOL Anywhere” efforts. The reports said that Weil will return at the end of summer and assume new responsibilities.

AOL’s broadband operations are somewhat unfocused as the company tries to incorporate Time Warner and its Road Runner high-speed broadband service. AOL is being offered as a broadband alternative to Road Runner on some Time Warner cable systems--as part of an “open access” strategy--and is also offering its own DSL connection in conjunction with local telephone operators.--Jim Barthold, Senior Editor
