AMC posts $96 million Q2 loss

Applied Micro Circuits yesterday posted a loss of $95.9 million--or 32 cents per share--for second quarter 2001. While the company met analyst forecasts, AMC reported its second-quarter sales had fallen 57%, from $97 million to $41.3 million, year over year.

Most of the loss came from a one-time charge related to acquisition write-downs and previously announced layoffs. Excluding the one time items, AMC's loss was $12.8 million, or 4 cents per share, at the low end of analysts' projected results.
