Alltel won’t push CenturyTel bid
Alltel is still interested in purchasing CenturyTel but is not pressing the deal, according to a Reuters report. In August, Alltel bid $5.9 billion for CenturyTel, which the rural telecom provider rejected.

Said Alltel’s CEO Scott Ford during the J.P. Morgan global telecommunications conference: Alltel is willing to discuss a merger with CenturyTel, but “I don’t think we’re going to force them to do anything.” Ford said Alltel is considering other possible acquisitions.
