Alcatel invests $15M in General Bandwidth

Alcatel invested $15 million in General Bandwidth, an Austin, Texas, access equipment vendor. The two companies announced an OEM partnership in April 2003 for General Bandwidth’s voice-over-ATM fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) technology, which Alcatel employs in the four-year FTTP equipment supplier contract it announced with SBC Communications in December 2003. Alcatel integrates, resells and supports General Bandwidth’s 60-Gb/s G6 packet telephony migration platform. Before Alcatel’s investment, General Bandwidth had raised $170 million since its launch in 1999.
