Challenging Cisco Systems in its dominant enterprise router market, Adtran is pricing its router at about 55 percent less than comparable competitive products. Additionally, the company is trying to play off of the mass of IT personnel already trained on Cisco equipment.

“We’re leveraging [Cisco’s] IOS by mimicking the line command interface,” said Todd Lattanzi, product manager for Adtran’s enterprise networks division.

The 3200 is standards based and is designed to co-exist with other brand routers. “Interoperability is absolutely critical,” said Lattanzi.

The product also includes a stateful inspection firewall, a DSX-1 voice interface and an optional disaster recovery system.
