Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) serves software (applications and utilities) to end customers from a cloud--a model that more telcos are evaluating (for internal use and external use as a service) in an attempt to drive more revenue through cloud-based approaches to service creation and delivery.

cVidya wants to become a more important piece in the creation and exposure of services. Long known for its revenue assurance and fraud management solutions--namely its Integrated Revenue Intelligence Solutions (IRIS®) and MoneyMap technology--it seems a natural step that the vendor’s new cVidyaCloud announcement will extends its offerings to a SaaS/cloud computing model. To head up strategy for cVidyaCloud. Nava Levy--formerly of Amdocs SaaS/Cloud program--is very active in thought leadership around cloud computing and an active participant in various forums, including TM Forum’s "Enabling Cloud Services" initiative.

The purpose is to create an “on-demand” model for cVidya applications, which will be available through the web through a monthly subscription fee. As mentioned by Ari Banerjee, senior analyst at Heavy Reading in the company press release: “This could be of particular interest to smaller service providers wanting financial insight and analytics with predictable total cost of ownership. It helps them to maximize margins, improve customer experience, optimize ecosystem relationships, and provides them with a level playing field allowing them to compete more effectively with larger service providers.”

cVidya has been busy. It has acquired ECtel, which helped bolster its strength in a competitive Israeli market. It also has wins around the world, including a recent North American service provider, not to mention former work with Cable & Wireless, as well as Vodafone in Germany and others in Western Europe.

cVidya has also made strategic partnerships with the likes of Highdeal, a provider of pricing and rating solutions, and HP, which OEMs the MoneyMap revenue assurance product through tis CentralView solution.
