While nearly 30% of U.S. households no longer use landlines, most consumers, says Syniverse, aren't keen to give up traditional privacy management features, such as caller ID or call blocking.

Additional features operators can extend include group blocking, call look-up, directory assistance, a do not disturb feature, the transfer of user licenses and — for Android smartphones only — SMS blocking.

"Ultimately, it is all about convenience," Syniverse CEO Jeff Gordon said in a statement. "Mobile subscribers do not want to sacrifice privacy management services that make life easier."

The Syniverse Applications Service Provider Exchange (ASPX) connects mobile application stores with multiple operators through a single relationship point with Syniverse.

The company, which has a history in SMS and MMS interoperability technologies, is also an active player in the mobile video communications space (CP: Building a better video chat).
