New AT&T 4G Mango smartphones coming, plus a Mango push to WP7 phones
AT&T's big-time backing of Microsoft will yield three new Mango-running smartphones from Samsung and HTC in Q4, plus a Mango push to all current Windows handsets.
AT&T has sold more Windows Phone devices than any other carrier — a tradition it clearly intends to continue, announcing this morning (CP: AT&T Expands Windows Phone Leadership) that it will launch three new 4G Windows Phones during the fourth quarter.

The Samsung Focus S, HTC Titan and Samsung Focus Flash, said AT&T, will all run the much-talked-about "Mango" update — which this fall will also be pushed to all the Windows Phones that AT&T has already sold.
AT&T shared light details about the phones. The Focus S, a follow-up to the Samsung Focus, will feature a 4.3-inch display, a 1.4GHz processor, front- and rear-facing cameras and a super-thin profile at just 8.55 millimeters.
True to its name, the HTC Titan will wield a pocket-bursting 4.7-inch display, a 1.5GHz processor, a rear-facing 8-megapixel camera with LED flash and the ability to play Xbox Live games — an expected defining point for Microsoft. (MDP: Is Xbox Live Microsoft's Sure Way To Grow Mobile App Revenue?)
Likely to wear the most modest price tag of the three (AT&T calls it "packed with value") the Samsung Focus Flash will feature a 3.7-inch display, a 1.4GHz processor, and a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera.
No other pricing details or specific dates were offered.
AT&T, since losing its exclusive U.S. rights to the Apple iPhone, has aggressively rounded out its portfolio, paying new attention to Android, Windows Phone and even BlackBerry. The new HTC and Samsung Windows Phone devices, however, will likely have a Sprint iPhone 5 to compete against — not to mention the same phone from Verizon and AT&T — as well as Nokia handsets running Mango. The first fruits of the Microsoft-Nokia relationship, its rumored, will debut at Nokia World in late October, though the phones won't come to the United States in real numbers until early next year.
The Mango update is said to include more than 500 new user-pleasing features, as well as benefits for developers, according to RedBit President Mark Arteaga (MDP: Windows Phone 7 and WP7 Mango: A Conversation With Mark Arteaga), such as multitasking and more access to sensors and the camera video stream.
AT&T, in its statement, described its decision to push the Mango update to all its Windows Phone customers as taking its Windows Phone "leadership to a whole new level."
