street-level coverage via clusters of intelligent, remotely managed
units. SPICE combines features of micro base stations, repeaters
and intelligent modems. The RF level of each device is less than
that of a single phone handset. SPICE also reduces the need for new
towers and uses a wireless backhaul.

Disposable cell phone charger
Electric Fuel's Instant Power Charger is a pocket-sized device
that weighs less than three ounces. It plugs directly into the cell
phone, giving consumers the option to continue talking while the
empty battery is recharged. A disposable PowerCartridge is the
source of power for the charger, and an adapter allows the charger
to be used with any electrical outlet. Each cartridge is good for
three charges, with additional cartridges sold separately. Chargers
are available for $19.95, and additional cartridges cost
$9.95.

also can link to existing lightweight directory access protocol
corporate directories to facilitate access to employment data via

Wireless data system
M/ERGY is a mobile broadband wireless data system offered by COM
DEV. The product gives users access to information at data rates
higher than 3G and will initially operate in the licensed 1.9 GHz
PCS spectrum. Using Qualcomm's HDR technology, M/ERGY provides
data, music videos, streaming videos, e-commerce and voice-over-IP
at burst rates of 2.4 Mb/s. The system will interface with
computers through a USB connection. A PCMCIA card version will also
be introduced.

The CMX3G MSC is available as one of Ericsson's total CDMA
solutions, which enable operators to provide voice and data
services on dedicated platforms. The MSC supports ANSI-41-E as well
as the InterOperability Specification Version 4 with support for
Packet Core Network packet data services. Developments in the
CDMA2000 standard can be implemented with a simple software upgrade
in the MSC. CMX3G MSC's scalability is achieved through intelligent
packaging, with expansion modules that provide capacity up to
20,000 Erlangs. The expansion modules are self-contained with
switching capabilities and devices for trunking, announcements and
conference calling.

E-mail retriever for phone
Nomad from Telecommunication Systems allows digital phone users
to hear desktop e-mail over the phone. Users are notified of mail
via an SMS message. By pushing talk on digital phones, users will
hear a text-to-speech version of the message and can send a
response by pushing reply and recording voice commands. E-mail
receivers click on link supplied in the e-mail and listen to the
reply. Users do not need to purchase a new phone or change
carriers.

carries one OC-3/STM-1 and two wayside DS-1s per RF channel in the
4-13 GHz bands. An optional Cross-polarization Interference

employ automatic DADE and minimum dispersion IF combining to

Dual-band antenna
The On-GlassAPDM928 series cellular/PCS antenna from Antenna
Specialists provides 3 dBd gain for cellular and PCS in a reduced
footprint to fit between defogger wires. Based on a coupling box
that maximizes signal transmission, the APDM928 uses a whip design
to achieve in-phase signal transmission and reception, using two
colinear elements at both frequencies. The stainless steel whip is
14 inches high. The ADPM928 series covers the 824 MHz to 894 MHz
cellular range and the 1850 MHz to 1990 MHz PCS frequency range.
The antenna is vertically polarized, has omnidirectional coverage,
does not require ground plane and can handle up to 10 watts. The
