WARMING UP TO WIRELESS DATA

The lukewarm, if not outright hostile, reception to WAP has given wireless data a bad rap — but one that carriers and technology developers think will pass. New figures from Ovum offer hope. According to the research group, wireless data adoption will pick up in 2003 and 2004, reaching surprisingly high penetration levels in 2007. The rest of the world already has a head start: Ovum estimates more than 10% of the world's mobile users are using wireless data, but the U.S. is expected to make up for lost ground, pushing 62% penetration in 2007 while the rest of the globe falls to just under 50%.
