VIRTUAL NUMBERS

The market for IP-based virtual private networks services will sextuple in the next five years, according to new figures from Ovum Research. Already an established intranet technology, IP VPNs are expected to make inroads in the extranet and access markets in the next few years. Ovum predicts extranet sites alone will increase by a factor of almost 70 by 2007. But that doesn't mean intranets will wane. In 2006, Ovum has the number of intranet IP VPN sites passing the 1 million mark.--Kevin Fitchard
