The MCS 2007-4 and 2007-8 servers are designed for companies to do videoconferencing without using a service provider or carrier, said Jack O'Neil, vice president of marketing at VideoServer.
The low-priced servers are ideal for companies that conduct regular meetings or training sessions among remote locations, O'Neil said.
The servers can be used either over the public switched network, via ISDN or switched 56 service, or over private networks using T-1 or fractional T-1 service, he said.
The servers are basically scaled-down versions of VideoServer's high-end MCSs, with fewer slots for optional capabilities, O'Neil said. Both models can support continuous presence, in which the audio and video from each endpoint is mixed and switched at the MCS so all conference participants can hear and see each other. The MCS 2007-4 server supports up to four participants and can be upgraded to the MCS 2007-8 server, which supports up to eight users.
Prices start at $22,000 for the MCS 2007-4 and at $42,000 for the MCS 2007-8.
