The global telecom environment is experiencing a boost in international calling, reduced rates and easier dialing as more carriers expand their network operations beyond their home borders to accommodate the globalization of their business customers, said David Illing, vice president of marketing worldwide for Vicorp. As that happens, the need grows for enhanced services platforms that can support things such as transnational call centers and worldwide calling cards.
The Lydian product suite is aimed at wireline and wireless carriers that provide services to business customers in multiple countries. The platform supports enhanced calling card, prepaid and toll-free applications, and it features integrated operations support functions, an SQL database and Vicorp's QuickScript service creation environment (see figure).
Lydian can operate independently or be configured as a multinode system for transnational installations. Carriers need a platform that is scalable in capacity and in the number and type of applications it supports, Illing said. Above all, they need a foundation that will ensure quick service introduction.
"Any way you want it, time to market is the bottom line," Illing said.
