SPOTWAVE SPOTS MORE COVERAGE FOR PROSUMERS

With the emergence of Wi-Fi and in-building cellular solutions, having wireless coverage in the corporate enterprise or even in the small business isn't as difficult as it used to be. Last month's International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas proved to have its share of solutions useful for the growing market of “prosumers” in the enterprise environment.

Spotwave Wireless, a vendor of indoor wireless solutions, unveiled the Zen, a coverage product that improves indoor wireless reception for spaces up to 2500 square feet. Designed for small office/home office (SOHO), Zen improves indoor signal strength of cell phones, PDAs and other mobile devices across the entire 1900 MHz, and with CDMA, GSM, EV-DO and UMTS network interfaces.

“Prosumers are becoming increasingly dependent on wireless devices in their day-to-day lives and, as a result, are demanding more reliable access to their wireless services,” said Spotwave CEO Bill Carlin, in a statement announcing the product.

The Zen monitors signal strength in SOHO and residential spaces and prevents oscillation and harmful interference. This product will be available in the second quarter of 2006.

VERIWAVE EASES TESTING FOR COMPLEX WLANS

Away from CES, but still focused on the needs of the enterprise, VeriWave has announced its latest release of its WaveTest Traffic Generator / Analyzer.

WaveTest is a wireless local area network (WLAN) and Ethernet-performance test platform that provides simultaneous generation of traffic from thousands of 802.11 and Ethernet clients, with line speed analysis of the behavior of the system being tested.

The WaveTest 90 chassis contains up to nine WaveBlades, which are independent traffic generators/performance analyzers. WaveBlade Wi-Fi supports IEEE 802.11 a/b/g client emulation, while WaveBlade Ethernet supports IEEE 802.3 client emulation. Each card emulates up to 500 WLAN clients or 1000 Ethernet clients across single or multiple subnets.

The system also has individual security, power, rate and payload settings per client; traffic generation and analysis at maximum air rate for all WLAN clients; multiple flows per client that emulate diverse traffic types; and other features.

LG ELECTRONICS DISPLAYS MULTI-FACETED LG VX9800

Also on display at International CES was LG Electronics USA's new LG VX9800, the multi-tasking mobile device the vendor launched late last year for Verizon Wireless. It's an EV-DO high-speed data device with a full QWERTY keyboard, a 320×256 pixel screen, 128 megabytes of internal memory, a MiniSD memory storage expansion slot, MP-3 player capability and a 1.3 megapixel camera with flash.

The device can stream and play video and audio clips through Verizon's Vcast service. It also has a Bluetooth interface. The phone allows for mobile Web e-mail and has BREW support for application, ringer, wallpaper, graphic and game downloads, including 3-D gaming.
