Lucent powers Brazil
Lucent Technologies will supply Galaxy Power Systems to Telefonica Cellular in Rio de Janeiro, Espirito Santo, Bahia and Sergipe, Brazil. The Galaxy Power Systems provide a power source to communications systems and have a network management software interface, which lets Telefonica monitor and control the equipment remotely and in real time.

The $5.5 million agreement is the first sale to Telefonica in Brazil by Lucent-Inepar Energy Systems, the joint venture between Lucent and Inepar S/A Industry and Constructions. The combined company produces power systems for fixed and wireless networks.
Anatel, Brazil's telecommunications industry supervisory and regulatory body, certified the equipment.
