TCI is currently using the LANcity modems in a trial of the @Home network in Sunnyvale, Calif., and will continue to use the modems in its first commercial rollout in the San Francisco Bay area, which is slated for late summer or early fall, said Dede Moreland, director of Internet services at TCI.

"The LANcity modems are operational, functional and have proved themselves," Moreland said. Although TCI has signed a letter of intent for 200,000 cable modems from Motorola, the LANcity agreement is the largest order for cable modems that has actually been placed. The @Home network will use cable modems from a number of different vendors, Moreland said.

LANcity also announced an order from Adelphia Communications for 500 cable modems for the cable operator's Toms River, Va., system. LANcity will be Adelphia's exclusive cable modem vendor, said Rouzbeh Yassini, founder and chief executive officer of LANcity.
