Kennard steps down from FCC

FCC Chairman William Kennard announced his resignation from the commission during a press conference last week. Kennard said he had made it clear that he planned to leave the FCC after the AOL/Time Warner merger review was completed. On Friday Kennard submitted his resignation when merger approval was announced, which will be effective Jan. 19. FCC Commissioner Michael Powell is considered the leading candidate to replace Kennard as chairman of the regulatory board.
