Wireless business and technology is, without a doubt, one of the largest and most important coverage areas of Telephony. That — as well as the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association's Wireless 2005 show that's happening in New Orleans this week — is why we decided to dub this edition of our publication “The Wireless Issue” and use it to explore the latest developments and challenges in that sector.

There are many — and one might argue that the challenges outnumber the developments lately. Despite successes on the wireless technology front in areas like 3G, WiMAX and wireless/wireline integration, the industry is still far from being able to demonstrate a broad range of implementations and resulting commercial services based on that technological innovation. Those issues and more are explored in-depth in this issue's special report (page 36) compiled by Staff Writer Kevin Fitchard and Senior Editor Jason Ankeny, who man our wireless beat. News Editor Dan O'Shea penned this issue's profile of MobiTV (page 46) and is coordinating our print and online news coverage of the CTIA show this week.
Being able to provide our readers with the kind of comprehensive and timely coverage of wireless represented in this issue — not to mention the myriad other technology and business sectors of telecom we cover issue after issue — is very much a team effort, and I would be remiss if I didn't recognize every single person pictured in the photo above for their contributions. Every step in the process of creating Telephony is critical, from reporting to writing to copy editing to graphic design to editorial production to online development. I'd like to give a special shout out to Web Editor Chip Howard, who has worked tirelessly to create, revamp and oversee our online publications — not only TelephonyOnline.com, but also our weekly E-newsletters and the site of our sister publication, WirelessReview.com.
I invite you to explore the results of those efforts on our Web sites and in the issue you're now holding, and I look forward to your feedback on our ongoing coverage of the wireless sector and of telecom innovation as a whole. You can reach me at jmeyers@primediabusiness.com.
