INTELLIGENCE FROM THE BROADBAND ECONOMY

This year will be a record year for the global wireless industry, surpassing the 2 billion subscriber mark with its highest number of net additions to date: 380 million, according to Informa Telecoms and Media. This may be the last of the broken records, though, as Informa also predicts net adds will fall for next year and continue to decline in subsequent years. Astronomical growth in Asia and other developing markets, coupled with surprising growth in already mature markets in the U.S., Europe and Northern Asia produced this year's skyrocketing numbers, Informa said. There's no way the industry can keep that growth from cresting, however, as developed markets near 100% penetration and those immature markets themselves mature.
