IMS
IP multimedia subsystem architecture deployment has not gotten so far yet in practice, but that has not stopped many people in the industry from continuing to tout its benefits on service creation, delivery and management for service providers of all types. Here's some of what we've been overhearing recently about IMS:
“Carriers are getting much more interested now in how to implement IMS than play around with it in the technology sandbox, which was really last year's story.”
— PK Prasanna, IMS/convergence technology lead for inCode Wireless
“You can deploy SIP-based services now. You don't need a specialized handset to do it. To sell these services, your network doesn't have to be all IMS from Day One.”
— Aidan Dillon, CEO, Accuris Networks
“The core network is migrating to become IP-centric. The traditional wireline telcos have built up that expertise, but it's not so easy for everyone to build up IP expertise. And timing the investment in new technology correctly is always important.”
— Anders Gustafsson, CEO, Spirent
“Everyone is in the same shoes right now with IMS. Everyone is looking at deploying it. The cable TV industry has been offering phone service for a while, but they have really ramped it up recently. Now, they want to get better infrastructure in place to support more VoIP and other IP services.”
