GTE makes good on legal action

GTE filed an expected request for injunction against AT&T last week to stop what it alleges are "false and misleading advertising claims made by AT&T against the quality and integrity of GTE's long-distance service."

The motion for a preliminary injunction was filed in federal court in Dallas and is a follow-up to GTE's lawsuit filed July 15 (Telephony, July 22, page 12). The motion seeks an expedited timetable.

In an emergency hearing last week, Chief Judge Jerry Buchmeyer ruled that GTE could begin deposing AT&T witnesses Aug. 29 and that AT&T must produce documents sought by GTE starting Aug. 19. He did not rule on the injunction itself.
