GIVING E-MAIL A VOICE

Following in Ameritech's footsteps, GTE has come out with its own version of a product that uses text-to-speech software, which allows PC users to access their e-mail via telephone. Mail Call lets customers dial a toll-free number to listen to their e-mail, reply, send a message to fax or create new messages for anyone in their address books. Cost is 20 cents per minute, with a $5 annual maintenance fee.
