FTC delays AOL/Time Warner decision

The Federal Trade Commission last week unanimously decided to postpone its decision on the proposed $115 billion America Online/Time Warner merger "for a period of not more than three weeks." In the interim, AOL and Time Warner officials "will offer new proposals to address competitive issues" in an attempt to persuade the FTC not to take legal action to block the deal.

The FTC did not specify what conditions it is seeking from the merging parties, but reports indicated that the commission wants AOL/Time Warner to sign an agreement with a national ISP to ensure that AOL's Internet competitors can be accessed through Time Warner's cable network.
