Here's just a taste: Cisco Systems will debut eight products, including a modem, two routers and a network module for customer premises equipment. The company will offer a new 6200 series advanced DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM) and its 6400 series universal access concentrator.
In addition to hardware, Cisco announced two new software offerings for service creation and control. The 6510 Service Selection Gateway and Dashboard allows service providers to offer customers a menu of services and allows customers to select services. The Cisco User Control Point will enable service providers to offer personalized Internet protocol services, including flat-rate or per-usage pricing based on type and quality of service.
Cisco is trying to provide a full range of products for its customers, said Enzo Signore, Cisco's DSL product marketing manager.
"Without developing the end-to-end solution, service providers won't be able to drive profitability," he said.
Pulsecom is announcing a DSL Lite version of its WavePacer Broadband DSL solution, created to make DSL easier for carriers to deploy to the residential market. The WavePacer Lite 1000/CX splitterless access concentrator interoperates with Pulsecom's full DSL solution. To incorporate the DSL Lite capabilities into the solution, Pulsecom has leased technology from Aware Inc.
The solution fits on a card that plugs into a carrier's existing chassis. The card can be swapped out for the full-rate version, said Sassan Babaie, vice president of marketing at Pulsecom.
Pulsecom also will introduce the WavePacer RAM-1100 asymmetrical DSL solution for digital loop carriers. It works with any vendor's DLC-based DSLAM. The RAM-1100 has one DS-1 trunk side interface and eight ADSL interfaces on the line side. "Look at it like a stand-alone, mini-DSLAM," Babaie said.
Efficient Networks also will demonstrate DSL Lite, which it plans to use in its forthcoming SpeedStream 3020lite internal DMT ADSL modem. The company has tested the technology with its business partners' central office equipment and will offer a booth-to-booth demonstration.
In addition, Efficient will introduce an asynchronous transfer mode-based symmetrical DSL modem, designed to work with Diamond Lane's Speedlink DSLAM. The SpeedStream 5250 ATM/SDSL modem plugs directly into the PC and requires no setup or configuration. Because Diamond Lane has an agreement with competitive local exchange carrier Covad, Efficient hopes the CLEC will find the modem a helpful addition, a spokesman said.
Finally, Telmax Communications will introduce a T-1 gateway as well as a multirate SDSL access system that supports T-1/E-1 data transfer. The Xpress2500 is the only system that delivers T-1 over a single-pair, a spokesman said, and it offers flexible rate vs. reach adjustment. The T-1 Gateway concentrates traffic onto T-1 and frame relay backbone links.
