Exceleron leverages CLEC roots
One of the most recent entrants into the operations support system interface market, Exceleron Software, has its roots in the competitive local exchange carrier arena. A spin-off of CLEC Go-Comm, Exceleron last week released an OSS gateway that Go-Comm originally developed in-house.

The gateway offers CLECs a real-time interface into BellSouth's OSS via a CORBA-based application programming interface, said Gregg Hara, Exceleron's vice president of sales and marketing. Exceleron is in discussions with other incumbent LECs (ILECs) to develop similar interfaces into their OSSs, he said.
"CommGate is a completely Web-based solution that will have the same look and feel no matter which ILEC it interfaces with," Hara said.
BellSouth has certified at least three CLECs for electronic bonding to its telecommunications access gateway interface using the Exceleron gateway: TeleConex, NOW Communications and Go-Comm.
Citing Exceleron's knowledge of a CLEC's needs as one of the main reasons for choosing them as a gateway provider, TeleConex President Steve Watson said that he expects the product to help the company expand its 4000-plus prepaid customer base.
"It's really sophisticated and cuts down tremendously on paperwork," Watson said. Precise numbers on timesavings and error-reduction are yet to be determined.
