Device offers frame relay, ATM support Frame relay-to-asynchronous transfer mode interworking is rounding out ADC Kentrox's multiprotocol support on its AAC-3 ATM Access Concentrator. The Portland, Ore.-based company's Translation Mode interworking enhancement will allow carriers and end users to deploy the AAC-3 for both ATM and frame relay connections. The flexibility of using the same device regardless of service type will enable carriers to use the same network management system across both mediums. The Translation Mode will be available next month.

Interface helps set LAN priorities Ascom Timeplex, Woodcliff Lake, N.J., announced the ATM Integrated Cell Processor for its line of Synchrony ST-1000 circuit switches earlier this month. The ATM-ICP interface will let carriers and large private network providers prioritize local area network traffic over a high-speed 155 Mb/s ATM connection. Frame relay networks unite
MCI's and BellSouth's customers will be able to interconnect their frame relay networks based on an agreement between the two companies. Network-to-network interfaces were established between MCI's HyperStream and BellSouth's frame relay networks. The interconnection agreement lets the service providers ensure quality of service between LATAs.
FRAD enhances SS7 transport Tekelec is rolling out a frame relay access device designed to let carriers improve transmissions of SS7 traffic. Tekelec and Independent Telecommunications Network filed for patent rights for the new technology. Carriers are expected to reduce their transmission costs for SS7 by up to 30% based on the vendor's SS7 FRAD.
