The story “Switching on the Move” (Oct. 24, page 44) implied that Nortel Networks may forego its softswitch plans to focus on media gateway products. But, Nortel Vice President Alan Pritchard said the vendor is developing a softswitch based on advanced telecom computing architecture standards. He said Nortel's media gateway will allow the company to sell into legacy core networks built by other vendors, but those sales would not come at the expense of any new softswitch contracts.
