Corning, Level 3 forge fiber agreement

Corning and Level 3 have teamed to jointly research, develop and deploy new generations of optical fiber. Corning will be the worldwide supplier of optical cable and fiber for Level 3 for the next four years and will supply more than 10 million kilometers of advanced fiber for use in Level 3's intercity and metropolitan networks. Corning also plans to purchase Cisco's 10% stake in Pirelli's SpA optical components and devices business. It already agreed to buy the other 90% of the business for $3.6 billion in cash.
