CITIZENS BUYS U S WEST LINES

Citizens Utilities purchased 530,000 local exchange telephone access lines from U S West in a deal valued at $1.65 billion. The deal, which includes exchanges in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wyoming, is the second this year for Citizens, which in May acquired 187,000 lines in Minnesota, California and Arizona from GTE.
